Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
At HowNow, we’re extremely proud of our diverse workforce, which includes people of all backgrounds, genders, sexes, religions, ethnicities, personalities, and socioeconomic backgrounds. We understand the importance of and see the benefits of having a truly diverse team.
Whilst we’re proud of the team we have in place, we’re aware we can do more, and will continue to build upon our approach to EDI as we scale. Here's what we've got in place so far...
Recruitment:
- We have partnered with companies to allow us access to talent pools with higher number of minority talent
- All our interviews include the delivery or completion of a task, which is objectively measured to maximise fairness and reduce bias.
- We anonymise CV’s at pre-screening stage to remove any name biases when selecting who to move forward with
- We intentionally conduct multi-person interviews with a diverse panel to offer a more comprehensive candidate evaluation
- Hiring Managers are prescribed training on unconscious bias
Processes:
- We promote fairness and equality by using OKR's to objectively measure and reward performance
- Salary benchmarks are used to guarantee all employees performing the same role are paid equally
- We have dedicated Slack channels for female employees to connect, share experiences, and empower each other professionally and personally
- We have a feedback culture in place, regularly conducting employee surveys with anonymous responses to create a safe and inclusive environment where employees feel heard.
Perks and Benefits
- We offer flexibility on start-times, work from anywhere policies, are a hybrid first company, and offer enhanced maternity and paternity policies.
Education and Celebration
- We regularly celebrate cultural events company-wide.
- We have been delivered a KnowHow (our name for a Workshop) on the importance of neurodiversity and how best to support our neurodivergent teammates
Community
- We make a conscious effort to support local businesses that are ethnic minority owned.
- We have partnered with businesses such as AllHands and worked with companies such as Hackney City Farm, to give back to the community.
Whilst we’re proud of the team we have in place, we’re aware we can do more, and will continue to build upon our approach to EDI as we scale.
